Project Summary: Session Transcript Students are required to record their counseling sessions for supervision. Students are also required to complete one (1) video or audiotape transcript. The consent to video/audio tape form must be turned in with the transcript. All transcripts must be verbatim. On each transcript students must introduce the client to the instructor by providing the sections of “Brief Background History” (Individual-age occupation or student family situation and presenting problem) “Diagnostic Impressions” in accordance to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual “Treatment Goals ” and “Therapeutic Techniques Used” prior to the reveal of the session’s transcript. Transcripts must be verbatim and the diagnosis should be based on the client’s current (not previous) symptoms. Students should not base their diagnosis on what previous counselors psychologists psychiatrists etc. have claimed as the diagnosis. The transcript should consist of at least 15 consecutive exchanges excluding encouragers such as “oh ” “um ” “I see ” etc. (with alternative responses) of a significant aspect of the counseling session. Students must utilize the following labels to identify the communication: CL (client) CO (counselor) and ALT (alternative response). Each CO statement must have an ALT (ALTERNATIVE). Below is how each exchange should look. 1. CL: CO: ALT: 2. CL: CO: ALT: 3. CL: CO: ALT: Following the transcript students must write a personal impression/critique of their performance in the session. Students should write about what they did well and areas in which improvement/growth is needed. Students will submit their Transcript including the brief background diagnostic impressions treatment goals therapeutic techniques used and personal impression to blackboard by day 7. DO NOT UPLOAD THE RECORDED SESSION TO BLACKBOARD.
